Nicaragua Mission Trip

As you may know The Vine Church has a couple, Brian and Maggie Brannon, who are committing to a 1 year mission with Amigo’s for Christ in Nicaragua.  There are also a few people who have decided the week of June 23rd – 30th would be a great time to go and work along side them.

Here is the information which was shared with me in an email from Brian and Maggie.  Each person is taking this trip through Amigo’s for Christ but are seeking to go on the same week.

Hey Guys, we are both very excited that you are all still considering the Nica trip for Sat June 23rd – 30th. The groups on trip will be The Vine/Maggie & Brian’s friends, 12Stone Church, Friends of N GA and Buford Presbyterian; because there are several groups…the 20 spots reserved for us are in high demand and we would like to release them asap if they are not going to be filled. Soooo…please respond and let us know if you are IN, OUT or MAYBE. We would like to release some of the spots if they are not going to be used on the Monday after Easter and then WE HAVE TO release all that have not been signed up for on May 1st. Below is some recent information on the trip to consider.

The trip fees are $250, but they DO NOT have to be paid until 30 days before we leave! The option at the end of the sign up is PAY LATER WITH A CHECK, but please sign up and complete all the steps if you definately are going to make the trip.

The Non-Stop Delta flight is $688.00 now.

Other information about the trip is that it’s gonna be awesome and you should come!

Coats for Christmas

In this season of considering what we are thankful for, how many of us are thankful for being warm? Coats for Christmas seeks to help collect coats for the homeless on the streets of Atlanta and Gainesville.  This ministry was started through the vision of a couple of guys from The Vine Church in Braselton, Georgia, five years ago.  Over the past four years, we have distributed over 2500 coats, sweaters, windbreakers, scarves, and gloves.  Please get a bag from The Vine (or you can use your own) and fill it with coats, sweaters, windbreakers, scarves, and gloves. It does not matter the thickness of the garments, the key to warmth is layering.  Please take a second bag and invite someone from your Oikos (family, friend, neighbor, fellow student or co-worker) to join you in collecting coats.

Our goal this year is to have 1200 coats, sweaters, windbreakers, scarves, and gloves.

We are going out on Christmas Eve in Gainesville, GA to serve the homeless in our local area.  We will meet at The Vine Church at 9:15 a.m. to head to our distribution location.  We will pass out coats from 10 – 11 a.m. and head back to The Vine, or you can head home from Gainesville.

We will gather on Christmas Day at 10 a.m. at The Vine Church to serve the homeless in downtown Atlanta. We will pass out Coats from 11 – 1 p.m. and then head back.  We should be back at The Vine at 2 p.m. or you are welcome to leave directly for home if you do not caravan.

You are welcome to still join us on Saturday, November 19th from 9:30 – 11 a.m. as we distribute food to those who have signed up but we are not taking anymore sponsors at this time.  If you would like to join us please plan to be at The Vine Church on Saturday, November 19th at 9:30 a.m. and participate in Loving God through Loving Others.

HELPING BECAUSE HELP IS NEEDED

One of the members at The Vine Church has begun to love on a former homeless family that is working to reestablish themselves. Through this process it has become know that this family, mom (who has cancer), dad and 4 girls, are doing without some necessities.
Please help us with a bunk beds for the girls and some food to help them continue their journey toward getting back on their feet.

Help Hi-Def bring Life Change

Our youth group has taken on a tremendous project of renovating a house in
Buford.  This project will take place on June 4-6.  The purpose of this project is two-fold.  First, they desire to
provide basic housing for a woman who is in her last days of life.  Second,
they want to also share the good news of Jesus Christ with her.  However, in
order to do both, they need our help.  Below is a list of things needed to
help with the project.

21 adults to serve during the renovation in the areas of:
Landscaping work
Furniture transportation
Interior Painting
(Saturday, 9:00-4:00) – June 4
(Sunday, after services-5:00) – June 5
(Monday, 9:00-12:30, block party) – June 6

Serving w/ Street Grace

Serve, Learn & Volunteer Day

Committed to being a part of the Summer of Serving?  Join us on Saturday, April 16th (9:00-11:45 a.m.) for our next Serve, Learn & Volunteer Day, where you can explore volunteer possibilities and find a place to serve that fits who you are and the time you have to give. We’ll offer a Get Connected Forum in which you can learn about volunteer opportunities. Join us at our Street GRACE offices: Victory World Church, Ste.180, Norcross, GA.

Nicaragua Mission Trip Info Meeting

On April 11th from 7-8 p.m. in the Kidzu Worship Room at The Vine Church there will be an information meeting regarding an upcoming Mission Trip to Nicaragua.  If you would like to learn more about being apart of this trip or if you would like to know more about the work being done in Nicaragua, please plan to attend.  The trip for this summer is planned for June 25 through July 2nd.

The cost is $225 (this includes food, room and board) plus airfare, which is running $450-$700 roundtrip.  Then $100 for spending but that depends on the person.

We will help you in raising funds for this trip, but you need to come to the meeting, gather information and pray about your decision to join the team.

Here is a link to the organization we are working with in Nicaragua.  Amigos for Christ is a 501©3 non profit founded in 1999. They have grown from a small youth group based mission to one that includes thousands of volunteers who are engineers, doctors, nurses, students, moms, dads, and much more.  Over the past few years The Vine Church has had a number of church members and attendees who have connected with Amigos for Christ and we would like to make everyone aware of this wonderful ministry.

Help for Japan

Unless you have been without access to the outside world lately you have heard something about the tragedy in Japan. Many of you may have felt helpless because you want to help but do not know what to do and are sure you can not go to Japan to be there for the people. At this time and in a situation like this, the best thing we can do it GIVE!

The Vine Church would like to suggest UMCOR as a place to GIVE. 100% of the money given goes to the relief effort. Our greatest concern is not you giving to UMCOR but you responding to those in need the way God has asked. If you desire to GIVE through another organization then please do so. Just make sure to check what they will do with the money and how much of the money is actually going to the relief effort.

Makeovers at The Garden

On March 13th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. we will be providing makeovers to the women and children at The Garden.  Not only will are we going to be doing hair, make-up, and nails but we are also going to be taking their pictures.  We have two professional photographers who have offered to provide their services so these families can have family portraits.

If you would like to get involved just mark this date on your calendar.  Then contact Jason through email: jason@connecttothevine.org and we will get you connected to a place to serve.

Regarding things you might do:

– come and hang with the kids or bring some coloring books and color / play games

– come and hand out with the ladies while they wait to have their pictures taken or wait to have their hair and nails done

– come paint nails

– dream about something you would like to add to the day

– just be there in case something is needed

– email Jason and start a conversation about what you might do

Lobby Day

Lobby Day at the State Capitol will be Feb. 1st this year, and The Vine Church is
one of the sponsors for that event. The goal is
to have 1000 people at the capitol that day speaking with one voice that
sexual exploitation of our children is not acceptable and will no longer be
tolerated in Georgia and hopefully throughout our nation. Please go to the
Street Grace website and register to be a part of this event. Georgia is
leading the nation in confronting and eradicating this evil. The children
being exploited don’t have a voice.  So let’s all lend them ours. Buses will
be provided (nearest pickup will be at the Hwy. 20 campus of 12 Stone
Church) both to and from the capitol. Please prayerfully consider making
your face one of the faces that is on the forefront of the fight to protect
our children.
